OAE Professional Development Series

The Office for Access and Equity has developed a new Professional Development Series to assist UIC employees in understanding their rights and responsibilities at the university, as well as the services available to them. The Professional Development Series will cover topics of sexual misconduct, affirmative action/academic hiring, dispute resolution services, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and discrimination/harassment. Title: The OAE Access Avengers Talk Technology

Description:

This presentation will explain the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to the programs, services and activities provided by the university. Participants will gain an understanding of the responsibilities of the Office for Access and Equity, the Disability Resource Center and Technology Solutions regarding students, employees and visitors with disabilities. An overview of the new Information, Communication Technology Accessibility policy and procedures will be given along with quick tips for making accessible documents and reviewing the Accessibility Conformance Report. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the presenters.

Title: Feeling Unsafe on Campus? What Are Your Resources?

Description: UIC is committed to fostering a safe environment free from violence, threats, intimidation, harassment, bullying or fear, and where working relationships and interactions are productive and safe. UIC takes reasonable steps to respond to and manage incidents of violence and/or threats on UIC premises, employs useful approaches to identify and prevent potential incidents of violence or threats, reduces the effects of violence on victims, and imposes consequences on those who threaten or perpetuate violence. This session will outline policies, procedures and resources to assist with handling these types of situations.
