New Publication Highlights the Role of Disability Resource Professionals in Medical Education

Erin Broskowski's latest article, The Role, Challenges, and Employment Characteristics of Disability Resource Professionals in Medical Education: A National Study, was recently published in the Journal of Medical Education and Curricular Development.

This national study explores the unique responsibilities and structural challenges faced by Disability Resource Professionals (DRPs) working within medical education. It also offers systems-level recommendations to improve institutional support for DRPs and medical students with disabilities.

The research contributes to a growing body of work focused on access, equity, and inclusion in academic medicine. It reflects a broader commitment to removing systemic barriers for students with disabilities.

Broskowski credits the opportunity to attend the DRP Academy in 2022 and the creation of a dedicated DSS role within the College of Medicine as pivotal to their growth and ability to lead this research.

“This work would not have been possible without the continued support and encouragement I received,” Broskowski said. “I’m hopeful this study will spark deeper conversations and action around inclusion in health professions education.”
