OAE Professional Development Series

The Office for Access and Equity has developed a new Professional Development Series to assist UIC employees in understanding their rights and responsibilities at the university, as well as the services available to them. Each year there will be five sessions covering the topics of sexual harassment, affirmative action/academic hiring, dispute resolution services, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and discrimination/harassment. Please see below for this year's offerings.
  1. Title: Returning to Work: Restrictions and Reasonable Accommodations


    Description: In this session, we will address the interplay between the American with Disabilities Act, Return to Work Restrictions, and UIC’s Reasonable Accommodation Policy; and what you need to enter an interactive process and be prepared to address the employee and unit’s needs. Target Audience: Department/Unit Head(s) and supervisory staff

  2. Title: Are You Being Harassed, Discriminated Against, or Bullied? Which Is It?

    Description: This session will define unlawful workplace harassment and discrimination and how it differs from workplace bullying. It will further discuss some of the behaviors/actions of a bully, and the impact of bullying on an individual and the organization.

  3. Title: Sexual Misconduct: Where Do I Start?


    Description: OAE, with its Student Affairs partners will present a panel discussion on their different and collaborative roles of the offices in preventing and responding to incidents of sexual misconduct. The purpose is to help students, faculty and staff know what the different components do and who to contact.

  4. Title: Feeling Unsafe? What Are Your Campus Resources?

    Description: UIC is committed to fostering an environment where everyone is protected from violence, threats, intimidation, harassment, or fear, and where interpersonal relationships and interactions are productive and safe. UIC takes reasonable steps to respond to and manage incidents of violence and/or threats on UIC premises; employs useful approaches to identify and prevent potential incidents of violence or threats; reduces the effects of violence on victims; and imposes consequences on those who threaten or perpetuate violence. This session will outline policies, procedures and resources to assist with handling these types of situations.
